Civic Hall’s Future Innovation Hub in Union Square

Our proposal to the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) to build an innovation hub at Union Square has been approved!

Civic Hall is working with an accomplished real estate developer, RAL Companies, to transform 124 East 14th St ( the current site of PC Richard & Sons) into an expanded home for our civic tech community. This new site will include a digital job training facility for all New Yorkers and modern, flexible workspaces designed to meet the unique needs of early-stage start-ups.

We envision a unique new resource: a place where New Yorkers of all backgrounds can come to learn, work, and network using collaborative technology and design to solve pressing public problems. Through a new and expanded Civic Hall, we believe that connecting civically-minded technologists and entrepreneurs with New Yorkers seeking digital skills will vastly expand the benefits of technological innovation to all.

We have grown rapidly in our first two years, counting more than 1000 members and 100 organizations in our diverse community of entrepreneurs, organizers, government staff, technologists, innovators, and more. We’re now on a path to further grow into a collaborative innovation center for all of New York.

It will be a while before we can actually move to Union Square, so for now, nothing will change at our cozy new home at 118 West 22nd Street.

We will be announcing more details about the project soon, so please stay tuned. For more information, see this article published in Fast Company.
